Recently, the Mains’l Solutions team had the opportunity to attend the annual Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Conference—and we’re returning home feeling inspired, energized, and grateful for the experience.
The HCBS Conference is one of the largest national gatherings in our field, bringing together policymakers, providers, technology partners, and leaders from across the country who are all working to strengthen long-term services and supports. It’s a space where big ideas meet real-world challenges—and where collaboration helps move the entire system forward.
A Shared Purpose
One of the things that stands out most about HCBS is the shared commitment among attendees. No matter the role—state leaders, providers, or partners—everyone is focused on improving quality of life for older adults and people with disabilities.
At Mains’l Solutions, that mission is at the core of everything we do. We’re proud to support agencies delivering self-directed and community-based services, and being part of conversations at HCBS helps us stay closely connected to the evolving needs of the people and organizations we serve.
Throughout the conference, we heard a consistent theme: how do we build systems that are more person-centered, more flexible, and more responsive? These are the same questions we think about every day.
Meaningful Conversations
Some of the most valuable moments didn’t happen in sessions—they happened in conversations.
We had the chance to connect with providers navigating complex operational challenges, state partners thinking about policy changes, and peers exploring new ways to use technology to support their work. These discussions help ground our work in reality and give us insight into what’s working—and where more support is needed.
It’s also always a highlight to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new ones. The HCBS community is full of thoughtful, mission-driven people, and it’s a privilege to be part of it.
Learning from the Field
The conference sessions themselves were packed with ideas and perspectives. From policy updates to innovation in service delivery, HCBS creates a space to share practices that improve systems across states and programs.
We were especially encouraged by conversations around:
- Strengthening person-centered approaches
- Supporting the workforce behind these services
- Improving systems through thoughtful use of technology
- Navigating ongoing changes in Medicaid and HCBS programs
These are complex topics—but hearing how others are approaching them helps all of us move forward together.
Why It Matters
For us, attending HCBS isn’t just about staying informed—it’s about staying connected.
As a small, mission-driven team, we rely on opportunities like this to listen, learn, and bring those insights back into our work. Whether it’s enhancing our HCBS software, supporting agencies with financial management services, or helping organizations navigate change, these experiences shape how we grow.
Ultimately, everything comes back to the people served through HCBS programs. When systems improve, outcomes improve—and that’s what matters most.
Looking Ahead
We’re grateful to be part of a community that is committed to continuous learning and collaboration. Thank you to everyone who took the time to connect with us—we always appreciate the conversations, ideas, and shared passion.
We’re already looking forward to next year.
